Bullying: As it grows on those it infects

Adults acting like children. We've all seen it and the only difference between the childrens' quarrels and adults' debates are that adults get on tv, go to court and can drive. Changes between childhood and adulthood in one's personality are difficult and rarely occur completely. I've seen many youngins who have grown up with me, older or younger than me and sometimes it's just plain obvious that some kids aren't going to have the easiest life once they've gotten older. So what happens to the kids who fall into the traps of bullying and others who make their own traps by slipping into habits of taking their anger out on other kids?
If control is missing in someone's life, it is a natural tendency to try and make up for that lost control where control is to be had. Children who are abused at home or unsatisfied with the way they are treated at home can make up for that when they are among peers. This is where bullying comes in. It is making up the difference on other kids who are weaker in some ways than they are, very much like how they are weaker than whatever force is limiting their control elsewhere. These kids will grow up, feeling like they have to make up for the missing control in their lives. If they are so commonly controlled, then when do they get to be the ones on the giving end of the switch? When the unruly power over them ceases they are free to express, unlike when they are suppressed. As children grow in stature, with keener minds and broader muscles, the opposition previously presented by their former rulers abates till it is thin enough to be cut off. Unless these kids realize that there's more to life than feeling good about themselves and power then they will continue to exploit every power they have till they get into trouble and possibly help with the filling of prison cells. They have set their own destinations and have tampered with others', and unless the choice to change is made the spiral will continue.
The bullied are affected just as much as the bullying are. When their own suppressors move on to bigger and better banks, logically they will begin to realize their own power over others, physically or mentally, and I wouldn't jump to say that the choice to change the trend is any easier for these escaping victims than it is for the ones that had initially impended their power-complexes on others. There are always bad guys at the end of any movie worth watching (hehe jk), half of which are geniuses who were picked on on their way to 1st grade and decided to seek revenge and like it. People who are smart enough to make themselves the exception of the law and get away with something a great deal more than pocket change don't just use their muscle that they built picking on kids in 1st grade. It takes brains to get away with so much money nowadays and it is happening all over, all due to people who think that their beings and power opiates are more important than others.
Every day the other kids make fun, tease, and hurt my little brother. No one is friends with him. Now if all of this were true then more drastic measures would have been taken than just inquire from the teacher whether my little bro. has any truth to what he likes to say a lot. Since it is obviously exaggerated there was no cause to go further than the teacher, however the little truth that made his little brain decide to tell us that there was a problem didn't come out of no where. I don't want to see him grow up thinking that it's his turn to make others pay and I'd rather be able to see him make friends with the kids who aren't as happy as they should be at home. The solution can typically come from people who have felt like they were done an injustice and decided to overlook it and break the ever-growing slinky of bullying, because if they don't, then the spiraled metal will only grow more twisted and impossible to unwind.

Under the Sea

(8) What do they got? a lot of sand, We got a hot crustacean band! Each little clam here, know how to jam here under the sea (8) That song doesn't do it quite the justice it deserves I think, though I suppose it might if I could hear under water. But I can't, so for now the simple originality you can only find in the ocean etc. will continue to amaze me. What are the traits of the deep blue that captivate me so? You wouldn't think that I'm this way because of how land locked I am, but then again that might be reason why I am, and possibly others as well. In my perspective, who wouldn't like the intricate beauties of the many diverse communities, splashed with color only found in the ocean?
You're finally at a beach, probably tropical, and you're all ready to go pet dolphins in crystal clear water 10 yards from shore, however you get in with your goggles and all you see is dirt. Then you think back on this blog and ask: What was he talking about??? Clarity in the water has everything to do with discovering the beauty under water with human eyes. I promise that there really is water out there as clear as the sunny posters with coral reefs teaming with life. It's just not like anywhere you've been till you've headed over the Pacific to Tahiti or Hawaii, etc. The water's not always going to be clear, but when it is you really are in a whole different world that seems to follow slightly different rules than that of terrestrials.
Imagine a terrestrial world with minimal space to float around the weaves of other organisms all about their own tasks. In your weightlessness you explore and suddenly come upon a vast hole of deep, dark blue. Not only is it my favorite color, but it is complemented with bright pure oranges, yellows, greens, and other blues right behind you as you gaze across the endless expanse. As I hope you understand, this spectacle is well worth the chilling sensation of the cold water at first, but this is usually associated with waters near the ocean anyway. Shallow clear water is typically warm under the sun in the summer, completing this bliss of nature.
The ocean has caused me to consider being a marine biologist, or something of that nature. It would be the job closest to, yet furthest away from the world. There aren't many other occupations like it. I don't really like the encumbrance of gravity anyway. There aren't any bees or mosquitos under water either. :)

Basketball: I'm not very good at being tall.

This may seem like a childish argument, but since I've been playing about 2 basketball games a week, one with my church and the other with a Jr. Jazz team, I can't help but notice. As I get shorter and shorter than average, basketball seems to become more difficult to play. Sure, there are many of people that I play against that are out their practicing while I'm not and as we get older they get better, but this cannot account for every case. I rarely find a good basketball player who is short, and none of them are shorter than me. Ah, except for John Stockton. He's pretty short right? Well, actually he's 6' 1''.
Anyone who knows much about basketball knows that really short people just don't make it, no matter how good they are. You're not going to see anyone much (if at all) shorter than John Stockton on the court in the NBA. It's just the way basketball is. If you had a team full of tall people, and another full of short, but the short guys make up for the height is speed then who would win? Is this a fair experiment? Sure, they will get plenty of steals, that is if the tallers decide to dribble. But why dribble when you can just pass it over their heads and let the basketball go out of your hand a foot away from the basket? The short people shouldn't have a hard time dribbling to their basket, but it would still be difficult to make a basket when the lanky team is getting all cocky because they would hit the ball back down with ease every time. They just have long arms. It's not like they can help it.
So what should I do? I can't really complain because that's just how the game is. I can't blame people who are tall and just so happen to be coordinated with a basketball. Getting mad at something no mortal has any control over would just get me into trouble socially and mentally. Everyone is born differently and that's the way it is. For me to complain would be like a mentally retarded kid complaining that he's not as quick as everyone else. It's just the way things are, the way they're supposed to be, and I can't do anything about it. I'm sure there are benefits to being short seeing as natural selection hasn't killed small people off yet, as humans slightly progress every generation. Everyone has some talents that others may not have, but when it comes to basketball, I think I'll stick with jamming out in the Pep band on the trumpet, unless I'm playing with kids a few years younger than me. :)

Obesity in the U.S.

This research assignment is turning out differently than I imagined. At the beginning I didn't know what to pick, because I couldn't really think of a topic I was "passionate" about. By deciding on something that I've unconsciously considered, I continue to become more fond of my topic and change my subconscious acknowledgements to my own realization that many amazing things could come of the U.S. if we were not amongst the worst nations in obesity.
One of the major factors in obesity is over consumption. Not only would people be increasing their life expectancy by eating less, or only as much as they need, but we would also be able to have a larger surplus of food which could go towards better uses such as the starving foreign and domestic people. We would help our own lives along with the poverty-stricken peoples'. Food prices would also go down with less demand. Americans who give in to naturally over-developed craving for food only rob themselves of their health and opportunities to help those who need it even more. The "joy" some people get eating is far less than what they would feel with fitter bodies and how much the less-fortunate would benefit.
Health is another rising issue with such alarming rates of obesity in the U.S. Heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes are striking our population with higher odds than every before. With so much excess energy and sugar, overweight people have commonly develop high blood pressure which is debilitating to one's heart. The pancreas' ability to manufacture insulin in the body shuts down due to overwhelming amounts of unused fat and various other substances that accompany continued eating of low quality food. This leads to diabetes which accounts for more and more deprived lives every year. The long-lasting effects of obesity easily out weighs the temporary high eating brings to an individual.
Imagine the best country's citizens actually exemplifying the freedom and superiority that courageous men and women continually fought for in the birth of this nation. We would not be stripping ourselves of the potential greatness for a mere few minutes of extreme comfort. We can all do a little better in becoming examples of true patriotism by spending a little more extra thought and become prudent in the way we utilize the resources given us.
